Some thoughts
- Try putting it in gear and turning the pulley again. If you turn it and the truck moves, the cranks there.
- Not having an engine in front of me at work, are the plugs directly over the pistons, or ofset to the section between the valves. You could have thought the pistons were stationary, while seeing only the top of the block that is under the plug hole.
- Screw an air compressor fitting into to plug hole and give it a shot, does the crank turn then (use two or three different cylinders to check it)
- The finger over the plug hole with one complete turn will also check the compression.
- Last, can you pull the front pulley/ shaft out of the front of the engine? your pulley keyway may just be sheared off or vibrated? out on the pulley.

I love these interesting troubleshooting tidbits. Regards and let us know what it was: WAW
