That isn't a stupid question at all, sounds like a good one to me. I hesitate to use the word 'indestructable' even about a Dodge engine, but it sounds like there is something wrong in there.
Need a wiser head than mine for this one, but even if you do have to junk the crank or whatever try to stay with that engine as it will be the right one for the chassis.
