Welding question.

Just got my brand new shiny century MIG welder. I think I have everything set right, am using gas, good wire, But my welds are really bubbly and not laying down flat. What is the cause of this? I'm not a experienced welder at all, in fact the only thing I've welded before is a 1/2" wrench from the positive terminal to the cowl support rod. Any suggestions to technique?
