The np540 is the same as a np435 but with a granny low. It also has two PTO's so you can run a winch and a rear pto. I am going to replace the axles for a set of dodge M880 1 and a 1/4 ton military truck with a posi rearend. With the higher speed rearend I think i'll be glad to have a granny low
