I have a 1750rpm 15 amp/230 single phase 3 hp - real hp motor (weights at least 35lbs). I just wanted to make things easier on it espeically b/c I plan to install a larger pump. My Dayton/Champion pump is rated for 2hp.

BTW: Do not believe advertised hp ratings - at 230 volts, real hp is approximately ~4.1 amps per hp.
I switched from Sears advertised 5hp compressor to the real 3hp and industrial quality pump. The Sears was very noisey and ran hot. The real 3hp setup runs nice and cool and pumps much more air. The Sears setup counld even begin to keep up with my small glass beading cabinet needs. The 3hp setup is better but I need more CFM. (I am using a 80 gal. tank).
