A bridge plate is a circular metal plate, with interchangeable numbers. Depending upon the type of military vehicle, and its cargo weight, certain numbers are posted on the metal plate at the front of the vehicle.

The numbers are coded to indicate to drivers and traffic controllers (MP's) what vehicles can safely traverse a particular bridge.

Generally, the numbers indicate the weight, in US tons, of the vehicle. Sometimes there is a second plate to indicate the weight of a towed vehicle/trailer.
