Virtually all the firetruck stuff is financed by the governments one way or another. Small countries with no real truck industry might be able to import gleaming new chassis-cabs from the US, but they can justify the expenditure by pointing out that the local bodywork, pumps, assembly work, etc, amke up 40 - 50% of the final cost of the vehicle.
I prefer US bodywork styles but then everybody likes something 'foreign' 8~)
