Slave throw raises a flag to me. My throw out arm only moves about .750" max full pedal pushed. Was it shifting and normal clutch operation on the trail at the Vt Rally ? I once had a situation somewhat like you describe on a old John Deere 40C Dozer. When I inserted the transmission input shaft into the clutch, I bent the clutch disk at the hub. The part number for the slave cylinder is " United 33723".
The 1.500" of throw has me scratching my head.
