in fact, the early 1/2 WW2 trucks used the 8.75 pumpkins. Get the interchange manual to confirm this but as I recall - you could swap in a 8.75" pumpkin into your PW by drilling out the ham's stud holes larger and removing 1/8" (?) of the ham flange surface to make the axle centerline match the 8.75 pumpkin.
