The leftmost number is the higest echelon, usually division or brigade then battalion. The right would be company/vehicle.
example 40/540 C42 would be 40th division/540th MSB Charlie Company / fourth platoon 2nd vehicle.
your veicle would then be 42nd division/242nd signal. There should be a another set of numbers for company and vehicle.
