As you move the timing, the engine will find it's most efficient spot. The air will flow through the engine more efficiently, thereby creating higher vaccuum. That point will alos be the highest speed(maximum eficiency= higher speed), so I don't use a vaccuum gauge, just do it by ear. Then you'll have to retard it a little-the advance curve is usually set up for best running, and easy startability, not best idling.
