I think you've done everything anybody could possibly expect you to do to try to get the guy to pick up his truck. You don't want it to just sit out start deteriorating again. Assuming you don't want to keep it now that you have your M37, I think you're well within your rights to sell it to someone else. The only think I don't know about is if you already mailed him the title. If that's the case, you can just put in for a lost title from the DoL in Washington, though you might want to check and see if he titled it in his home state.

Absolute worst case scenario: 5 years from now the old guy's nephew turns up and says "My uncle told me before he died that he just bought some old truck out west and he wanted me to have it." Or maybe the kid's a yuppie and his lawyer sends you a letter. You don't have the truck anymore, so you give the kid the money his uncle paid and send him on his way. You'd still have the money from the second time you sold it, so even that very unlikely scenario wouldn't have cost you anything except time and hassle.

It just seems like it's time to get the truck into the hands of someone who will appreciate it, and for you to stop having to worry about it.

I think about all the times I've bought something and stored it on somebody else's place, and if I died nobody would ever know that I'd bought it or would think to go looking.
