When I built mine twenty years ago I cut off the frame under the cab area and then notched the frame rails (top and bottom) about 1.5' in front of the bed so the frame rails would 'bend' together in the front. I then put on a hitch that had the triangular shaped section on the top of the frame rails and welded it all together. Still have the trailer and have towed it at highway speeds loaded more times than I can count, including a cross country move.
