While I believe its better to be safe than sorry, don't you think thats a bit over-kill for hauling a vehicle that doesn't weigh any more than a chevy 1/2 ton PU ? I would agree a 3/4 to 1-ton truck is the best choice for hauling a single vehicle a few hundred miles or more but, not everyone has family or friends with one or just may not be able to afford the 12,000lb. gooseneck trailer and 1-ton rental. Why I've hauled many PU sized vehicles with no more than a 8,000lb. trailer and a 1/2 ton-full sized PU. Of course the trailer had tandum axles w/elect. brakes and I backed the vehicle on to the trailer to relieve some of the tongue weight and the vehicle was very securely tied down. I would keep my hi-wy speed at 50-55mph depending on how it felt, I took my time and did not get in a hurry and never had a mishap or bit of trouble. I guess if your in a hurry and have a deadline and were hauling over 500 miles at 60-70 mph it would be best to use a heftier setup but, for 500 mile or less hauls, adequite, slow and secure has always served me well using lighter equip. or else I would not have been able to do the hauling I've needed over the years. Of course I enjoyed "some" fearfactor in those hauls but the fear of death always kept me cautious and mindfull at all times of what was going on. For some I guess they should just hire to have it hauled for them.
