My #1 plug wire is at the 7:00 position on the distributor cap. But it could also be at the 1:00 position. The rotor should turn clockwise.
A sure way to tell is to pull the #1 plug out of the engine, watch the timing mark, and put your finger over the plug hole while turning the engine. If the #1 piston is coming up for firing, you will feel the air push out past your finger.
