They are OK, but the DC-3 was in a class of One. The wing was designed by Jack Northrop when he was an engineer at Douglas. He also designed wings for Lockheed. Of course the most famous wings of all are the Northrop flying wings, the latest being the B-2 Bomber.
There was a story during WWII about a C-47 (DC-3) hitting a tree and damaging it's wing upon landing in Burma. A disabled DC-2 was also at that air field. They took the 6' shorter DC-2 wing and attached it to the C-47, it flew out with no problems!
