Actually this is the first time I've heard of a split spring design. 46-56 parts book only shows one spring assembly number, says nothing of a split spring and the Military manual does not mention a split spring design either. I can't imagine the PW using that design on a driven front axle with the torque it creates. The spring on the passenger side of your truck is a correct spring.

Maybe Eric has some information he could share with us regarding split springs.
