1. get engine to normal operating temp
2. Pull each plug wire off from the plug one at a time (use insulated pliers if little
shocks bother you) listen to engine should start to miss write down the cyl number
and how bad the miss is (comparing it to the others) put the wire back on and move on to the next cylinder.
3. if the engine speed does not change much when you remove a wire then that is an
indication of a problem with that cylinder
4. swap wires from dist to cap to plugs and
do 2 again if there is no change then you
have eliminated the plug wire as a source
of the problem.
5. end of no tools required part
6. now remove spark plugs and set them out
on a board (or something) marked by cyl
number - look at the one from the problem
cylinder first color of insulator will
probably be different from the others
you really need a motors auto repair
manual to show you how to "Read" plugs
7. now go back and check the compression
again the "motors" manual will have the
"correct" way to check
8. if the compression is low on the prob
cyl then you have your answer - if the
compression is not low on the prob cyl
then put the plugs back in - put a new
one in the prob cyl and try #2 again
9. someone on the forum has the plug read
and comp test info you need but an old
motors manual is something you might want
to add to your tool/equipment inventory
have fun
