If you are talking about the gm gasoline block, that's the thinking that set back diesels for 30 years. The gasoline block in NO way can stand up to the power and stress of a diesel engine. The lightest truck block out there is the 7.3 International 'Power Joke' and ferd is having big time troubles with it. The 6.0 Powerstroke was so short lived that if you blinked, you missed it, and they brought back the 7.3 a few months ago.
gm Race parts have nothing to do with it, there are very little parts in common between gas and diesel. Diesels run at 17-22:1 compression ratios, gas motors are too light weight to live under those conditions. Diesels by the way, good ones like the Cummins, will go 300,000+ between overhauls. Jeep will have a 2.8 diesel in the Liberty this year, if you are looking for a small diesel with state of the art technology and fuel economy.
