A park service cop once wrote me a ticket for walking on a trail that was closed due to the fact that a tree had fallen across it and broken part of the hand rail. I asked him why he went into law enforcement. He said he loved the parks and he liked to work to protect them. I asked him how citing me for walking on a trail with a broken railing was protecting the parks. He said he was protecting the parks against being sued by people who might fall off the trail and get hurt due to the broken railing. Who do we get rid of first, the idiots who sue the park because the railing was broken, the lawyers who make it possible for them to sue, or the "I'm only doing my job" bureaucrats who go out each morning hoping to cite a good honest hardworking person for violating some inane bureaucratic rule?
