There are 88 loose roller bearings on the counter shaft of your old tranny. On the earlier transmission there are two cagged roller bearings. The 88 bearings hold up fine. Most times one of the cagged bearings falls out in peices when taking the cluster gear out. In my opinion the after (52-56) or NP420 trannies are the better ones to use. They are larger and stronger.
