Best thing to do with old radiators is to have the tanks removed & have them rodded. They run a flat rod through each tube & make sure the passages aren't blocked.
The bill...around $100 Canadian if you find a guy that's used to working on the good old stuff. No material needed other than solder & yes...often there are mice inside old rads that have been left with the cap off.
Of all the Power Wagons I've had, none were leaking water but every rad was plugged solid with rust & crap.
It's worth the money!
