...but that is ludicrous! The vast majority of homes built in CA before 1960 were built that same way, some still are built that way. Who is your insurance company? Have you contacted other companies for competitive quotes? Are you in a fire zone area? If so contact the California Fair Plan, it is the state insurance umbrella for home owners, I have to warn you they are expensive, as they are the home insurance equvilant to assigned risk auto insurance.
There are literally millions of homes in CA built that way and ALL are insured. Keep looking, or contact the state insurance commisioner, something is not kosher here.
