What we want here is to be taught by an expert too, just like Mike was. It's
what I do. It's what Vaughn does. It's what Ray at Helitool does. Does
Vaughn say "Go have the counter guy at Napa look it up for you? The wrong
part can KILL you"? Does Ray say "Sorry, nobody makes that"? Do I tell folks
"Take your truck to a professional"? But Mike sees his semi-skilled job as
so important that his advise is always "take it to a tire shop, where an
entry level mechanic with 6 weeks on the job training will do a professional job".

Mike, how about telling us how to do it ourselves at home in a safe manner? Use a long, clip on hose, bolt the wheel on the axle backlwards- the steel chassis can take a lot more abuse than a 'bag of dirty water full of electrical impulses'. Busting split rims is no more difficult, and less risky, than doing your own brakes, doing your own welding, reloading your own ammo, scuba diving, ski diving, etc, etc, etc. Driving in traffic killls 40,000 peryear- should we all hire a professional driver? And most of us die home in bed- should we hire Abner Yokum to sleep for us?

I'm trying to put risks into perspective. We all engage in risky behavior. But when reasonable precautions are taken, with the understanding of the tecnology involved, we can continue to express ourselves through our hobby. Why, just driving a 6,000# truck with a brake system designed in the 1930's, with no seatbelts, no crumple zones........
