Two things:
Check the peddle return spring to make sure it did not break. Also check the peddle adjustment. You need about 1 to 1 1/2" of freeplay in the brake peddle before you start to feel resistance when you press on the peddle. If this is not there then you are not getting a full release of the piston in the master cylinder and therefore not releasing the pressure from the system and your brake light switch will turn on.
