Hey Mark, I've been using an electric one for about the last 3000 miles, and so far, no problems (keepin' my fingers crossed).
I had a mechanical fuel pump on mine at first, along with the electric, but the mechanical one (brand new from NAPA) spit out its pivot pin within just a few hundred miles. I thought NAPA was supposed to have good stuff, but this sure wasn't. Meanwhile, since the electric pump was already on truck, I've just been using it ever since. I like having the electric pump anyway, because it prevents vapor lock (I have it mounted just outside the tank, with a filter before the pump.)
The electric pump is also from NAPA, so I hope it's better quality than yours, and better than my mechanical one was.
