D/C owns Detroit Diesel, also builds it's own diesels, the Mercedes, which it thinks is the best in the world, but Dodge has fought putting the bigger Mercedes truck engine into it's trucks because of weight and performance shortfalls. D/C also has a stake in Mitsubishi, which also makes diesels, and the Jeep Liberty will soon have a high output, small Mercedes diesel under the hood.
It would hardly make sense for a company, that many feel is already too diversified, to aquire yet another engine company so short on the heels of the purchase of Detroit Diesel,...unless they plan on buying up all of their competition instead of outperforming them?
