The original gas cap on my '49 Power Wagon was recently lost (I think someone actually stole it, to be honest with you).

Just for the heck of it, I walked into the AutoZone near my house and asked about what kind of caps they might have. Of course, the typical reaction on their part is to look up something for a much more modern Dodge truck on their computer. They handed me a cap that looked obviously like it would not fit my rig. Inside I was sneering, thinking, "you guys don't know much about this, do you?" But since I had the truck right there in the parking lot, I decided to try it out. I was amazed - it actually fit almost perfectly. The guys there said that Dodge trucks have been using the same size filler neck opening for eons (whatever that means). So I think if you ask for a gas cap for most any gasoline model full-size Dodge truck built within the last 30 years, you will probably get what you need.

One thing to note: You will notice that I said the cap fits "almost" perfectly. It snaps into place with no problem, but it also can be popped off the neck without too much effort, without using the key. You just have to jiggle the cap back and forth a few times. The little tangs that snap out of the cap and grab hold under the lip on the filler neck are not very long, and so they don't grab a hold of the neck very securely. However, it's good enough to keep the cap from coming off on its own, and it makes other people think you have a locking cap, so they'll be less likely to mess with it in the first place. The one I got is black, so it matches the color of the neck, and it's vented.

There may be other caps that fit even better, but this is doing the trick for now.
