I am trying to figure out when the switch was made from 6 volt to 12 Volt, and so far my data points to serial number 83949001.

If you have a 1955 or 1956 PW could you please post the serial number, and if it is 12 Volt or 6 Volt.

If you are wondering if your truck was 6 Volt or 12 Volt from the factory there are a few ways to tell, one is the AMPS gauge, and another is the tags on the generator and starter motor.

The AMPS gauge on the 55-56 PWs read 50 0 50 on the 6 volt trucks, and 30 0 30 on the 12 Volt trucks.

The 6 volt trucks use red tags on the Generator and starter motor, and the 12 Volt trucks have green tags.

To see more detail about this click on the link below and then go to "electrical"

If you your truck has been modified enough that you are not sure of the tags or the AMPS gauge, let me know and I will look for more detail changes.

If you have any literature that covers when the change was made, that would also be useful.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Eric
