The best thing to do to save wear on parts and increase MPG is to keep the front axles and differential from turning unless you need to. There are several options:

Buy a second set of flanges and machine out the splines,

MV free wheeling hubs are listed on Ebay from time to time for about $25

The above requires switching hubs when you need 4X4 which takes about 10 min.

If you 4x4 frequently then you might want to consider quick change hubs that allows a turn to free and lock positions

With the above you may only have to replace them once. However you probably will have to disassemble the knuckles again to replace the lower bearing cups if you experience front end knuckle shimmy in the future and that will depend on the conditions of the roads you drive on. The biggest benefit will be the MPG
