This whole discussion is semantic confusion.
The alternators that I refer to as "one-wire" are Delcos, with the internal regulator. They might/might not also have two other wires, which can be hooked up for voltage sensing and idiot light. But they are still, in this part of the USA called "one-wire" alternators.
The significance is that they require no external regulator, and are easier, therefore, to retro-fit on an old truck, tractor, log-splitter, u-name-it.
