Look at my website. I am using the 3 wire 10-SI on my Cummins 4BT. The wire that you are not using (in the diesel configuration for the alternator) has an output of +/- 6 volts for a 12 volt system and provides the synusoidal (sp?) wave that triggers the tachometer (assuming that you use a tach that is altenator driven).

The wiring that you are using sounds correct, voltage should be just over 12 for a 12 v alternator (ie, 13+/- so 12.6 sounds good).

Cummins instalation manual (I still need to send you a copy) for the B and C series has the pin out for Bosch and Delco alternators used in three wire for tachometer use, also on my webstite.
