RAM 1500 Spring Problem - Any spring Experts here?

Well, as I was under the RAM cutting the old exhaust off to install the new one, I noticed the front of the right rear spring eye appeared to be two parts.

Looking closer and thinking it was broke, I checked the other side, and sure enough it is.

Looks like the spring eye is broke completely apart. The only thing holding the broken part on appears to be the adhesion of the rubber bushing. That may also be the only thing holding the spring on the truck.

Now that the truck is open exhaust, I'm not ready to install the new one until I get the spring fixed. And not wanting to tempt fait, I'm not going to drive it either.

Now for the question. Any of you spring experts ever seen one broke like this repaired (welded)?

The trucks a 99 and has 142,600 miles on her, and in decent shape for a Northern truck with that many miles.
