Using Media instead of sand for blasting will use the same rig and NOT harm the metal as much, and in fact do a better job.
It's time to join the 21st Century. I've been blasting for 40 years, but times change. As for sending it out, it is illegal here in SoCal to blast with silica or any other sand outside and the shops here get about $185 to do it right, so it has nothing to do with "rich folks" and a lot to do with your health and what is practical. I blasted all of my truck with media, in a cabinet, used less than 20 lbs of media. I sent the frame out to a guy that is setup for items that big, they used a non-sand media.
Sand is for blasting concrete and re-bar.
