All of us has had to deal with one of these screws that was hard to remove. That does not mean that we have to reinstall them to the point of distorting the threads.

These screws do not have to be real tight. That's why they are screws instead of bolts or nuts. Do any of you have a "Torque Screw Driver"?

Of course, I have seen screw drivers with a square shank so you can use a wrench to help turn it. That's there to help you LOOSEN a rusty screw. There is no expectation you would use this screw driver and wrench combination to TIGHTEN a screw.

The only function of these screws is to hold the drum in place until the wheel (rim) is mounted. Then, the task of holding the brake drum is taken over by the lug nuts that are also holding the wheel. The wheel will keep the screws from coming out if they become loose.

As already said, use anti-sieze to keep them from rusting in place. Then "snug" the screws. Gorilla hands are not required.
