My 2001 did the same thing , while at the dealers for service. They found that the fuel transfer pump had gone bad. Mine was still under warranty. This failure of the fuel transfer pump is VERY common on the 2001 dodge diesels. My partners 2001 did the same thing when out of warranty. After a little arm twisting, Dodge paid for his repairs under warranty.I don't think there was ever a recall for this problem, but it is so common, that there should have been one.
