Give "thanks" to CA for the removal of oil from paints. It is called VOC compliance, or Volutile Organic Compounds. We haven't had oil in our paints since the 1980's. When the largest market in the USA makes a stupid rule it is generally followed by all manufactuers as a means to lower production costs. It was not cost effective to make formulas for every state, and federal rules copied CA, so chemical companies now make their paint to the most strengient requirements. Detroit will follow suit soon and there will be no CA emmissions and 49 state emmission rules, just vehicles that will meet CA requirements.
In 1986, early in the regulations, the paint makers were unable to get a lasting formula for all dark blue, gray and silver paints, you will see many vehicles, of all makes with those colors, with flaking and peeling paint.
