Also with the electric fuel pumps, if you run some EFI vehicles low on fuel or run them out of fuel, you burn up the pump! The Fuel is the 'coolant' for the pump.

I changed the fuel pump in my sister's '90 Pontiac Gran prix about 2 years ago.. The connections and connector to the fuel pump was charred! it had caught fire inside the gas tank! She is very blessed to not have gotten killed by it! Man....
