and makes the mechanic look good- til the leather leaks enough to fill the wick. And the felt also keeps grits away from the leather/steel area. But Leather is a very abrasive substance, good for shoe soles, but has been surpassed by neoprene as a seal- 40 years ago. Why do you think so many power wagons need speedi-sleeves? ( My 86 F-150 has 300,000 miles on the drivetrain, no extreme leaks yet, no speedi-sleeves either.)
