The early gauge style had the begining body tag numbers of 4312, the later style had the body tag number of 5182 (at least until 1956 when that body tag was last used). The oddball 1951 trucks with the early gauges have not had body tags on the two trucks I have checked, and there was no evidence of them ever having them.
My guess is Tom J has one of the earliest trucks with the new gauge style, as his body tag number is 5182-0027.
