It looks like I finally got my ff PW fuel problem resolved. On the way to work a while back it briefly acted like it was running out of gas (it had gas in the tank). The next time out it was really bad and I just made it home. I started looking into it and figured out that I had little to no gas coming from the fuel pump. Ok I replaced it with a new one from NAPA. Test drove it and my wife had to tow me home. No gas in the carb. Fuel pump tested OK. Decided to rebuild carb with the kit I bought for that last year. Got it running and took a test drive. Wife towed me home again. I tested both the pump and carb both seemed OK but not able to get gas from the tank to the pump. I then took time off to go to the California Rally. Came back still no gas to pump. I used a small hand vacuum pump and was able to immediatly get gas from the tank at the pump connection. Same thing happened when I connected at the carb. That indicated no blockage or other problems with fuel flow from the tank. I then tested the fuel pump. There was no flow or pressure. The new pump had failed. Replaced it. Then I had very good fuel pressure at the carb but the carb fuel bowl was still empty. I adjusted the float many times I really opened it up to get gas in but it never did. Finally, I took the old needle valve (which was a solid one instead of one with a spring) put it in and the truck started right up and ran OK but rich. Adjusted the float and it runs great.

It really is kind of a pain when both new parts you put in have failures. You tend to say "Naw it is not the fuel pump as I just replaced it and tested it." I knew it was a fuel problem as it started immediately when I put gas down the carb air intake. All I can say is; What a pain in the back end!!!!!!!!!
