That was a abrasive waterjet made by Flow. The water is compressed to around 50,000 PSI and a garnet abrasive is entrained just before the nozzle.

The abrasive is accelerated to supersonic speeds within the stream and then impacts the material to be cut. Using this method you can cut everything from steel to titanium regardless of hardness.

I looked at an ESAB unit a couple of years ago. Cost was around $400,000. If you set it up with multiple cutting heads and can get the work to keep it busy it can generate more $$$$ per hour than any other type of fabricating machine.
