We had a customer in a few weeks ago with a small wheel mounted crane built by R.O. Company, no longer in business. Had a standard 6 hold front axle assembly that was driven by a 318, however the engine was turned around the opposite direction, so the front axle became the main driving axle. They had earlier bought a set of lockouts for the vehicle, for moving it from one grain elevator to the other. Of course when they installed the hubs the vehicle wouldn't move unless you engaged the transfer case. Several weeks later they came in with a twisted rear axle shaft. The company had narrowed the rear axle shafts by 1/2 and then without using the standard rear axle flange, had new 23 splines cut on the outer end of the shaft. Imagine trying to find one of these! They only had made about 200 units.
We sold them a Dana 70 ft shaft to cut and respline, to solve the problem. The rear axle had something similiar to Dana 70 front drive flange only on the rear. Rear axle shafts were about 18" long.
