This is the prototype command car we sold to the owner in Texas, it is listed in Crimsons book. The vehicle was stored at Aberdeen Proving Ground for years, before it was turned over to the Army Transportation Museum at Ft. Eustis. Aberdeen had installed a 283 Chev V-8 with an automatic trans.,(of all things), as they had used it for a parade vehicle. We had both of these trucks here at the rally about 10 years ago. There was no serial number on the vehicle at all, so when we had it titled, State of Iowa had to stamp a vin # into the frame to be able to title it. As I recall the engine was locked up. The museum traded it to us as they felt that this one and the M601 didn't really fit with what their plans for the museum were??? Bruce Thomas, who started as an engineer at Dodge Truck in 1945, remembered seeing it at Chrysler. Definitely one of kind and the same one pictured in Crimson's book.
