Well, I don't appreciate what the guy said about my having to take an ethics class, but I can let that roll off my back. Wouldn't selling the truck again be the same as considering the first sale null and void? At any rate, I think you have a valid reason to sell the truck again. If the first guy shows up, offer to give his money back. If he threatens a suit, then go to court and make it known that a year had passed, and you tried to contact him(registered mail is good for your case)and after a year, you sold the truck to someone else because you needed the space, etc. If you offer to refund the guy's money I don't think he'd really have a case against you.
I find it really strange that this person just up and disappeared. It could very well be that he died, or left the country. Have you tried to contact relatives of his, a neighbor, anyone that could give you info on his whereabouts? Might also be helpful to you should you have to go to court over ther situation. You could bring up the fact that you tried to contact the man, but to no avail so, you had no choice but to sell the truck to someone else, because you were broke, etc. Make up a sob story that'll garner a little sympathy and you can't lose.
