Yes, soft tops, though fiberglass and metal Artic Tops were available both original and aftermarket. Some are homemade, with quality and appearance running from excellent to atrocious.

Yes, the M-37 can be a reliable rig, IF you keep on top of it and get it in good repair and work on it. I may convert mine to V-8 and use it hard.

Don't despair the prices. I got mine in pretty good condition, except for a mashed hood, fender, doors and windshield due to a rollover, but running (but no brakes) for $500. I just replaced the windshield, hood and fender for $200. Look around and see about a "parts truck", especially if you are going to repower it. I've seen decent parts trucks for $300 and up with no engine or a dead engine. Drop in a Dodge 318 or 360 V-8 and a 4-speed or 727 auto modified with a short tailshaft and you'd have a tough truck. You can even get a disk brake conversion kit ($pendy).

I also have a basket case US Army 1941 Dodge WC pickup that was dirt cheap. If I'm still interested after the M-37, I may finish it with a 318/automatic.

See if there is a local military vehicle club you can join to get the skinny on project rigs. I just joined MVCCO (Military Vehicle Collectors Club of Oregon) for $10!
