My approach was to remove the head panel, place it bowed side up and drive an International 130 tractor over it. I ended up having to suspend the ends with wooden blocks to achieve the desired affect. The bow was removed with no kinks or related damage other than tractor tread marks. My tailgate,(not original and badly kinked)had similar problems only worse as a result of using a mature tree for a parking brake without slowing down first. The tractor wasn't heavy enough so I used the truck itself as the 'press' although visability wasn't as good. The kink is still there as expected but the gate closes now. Probably not the desired method if you are doing a resto but it does show that you don't have to be real gentle.
