Galen, I had mine inspected and rebuilt by a local guy. Shift lever was sloppy and it was difficult to get into third and, I believe reverse. But it held OK in all gears. Shift lever pin had been cobbled up by someone.

He took it apart and showed me the gears. Every one had the corner sheared off, presumably from shifting without double-clutching. I inquired of VPW about gear availability, and if I remember correctly, they said they are not being manufactured and if available are cost-prohibitive. Most folks just swap in another tranny.

My guy cleaned up (de-burred) the gear teeth and put it back together for me. Replaced the shifter fork I believe, and the lever pin. Shifts fine with no load. Anxious to see how it will do once reinstalled.

Good luck to you!
