I got some good advice on the last forum. I wanted to follow up and thank those that helped.

I got my TIRES BALANCED. I pulled the rear axle shafts so they could spin the wheels on the hubs. They used an old fashion machine (the ones a novice might mistake for a giant vacuum cleaner) to spin the tires and a probe placed under the axle to sense when the heavy part of the wheel came to the bottom. The sensor controlled a strobe light the illuminated the heavy part of the wheel. He went through about three iterations on each wheel adding conventional lead weights to both sides of the wheel when necessary.

The result- well it’s hard to tell, because it doesn’t take much unconformity in the road surface to cause a lot of vibration in the old, stiff, un-dampened suspension. But sometimes it rolls as smooth as silk, so there is some improvement, even if most of it is psychosomatic, because I know we did all I could do to balance the tires.

GAS TANK VENT: My Carryall has none. Some did. Mine doesn’t. The divot I suspected to be a vent is just the passageway for the fuel gage wire. My problem did clear up the next day. I think it must have been the change to summer blend gasoline that does not foam as much.
