You get the ratio by dividing the ring gear by the pinion gear and then rounding off to two decimal places.
4.89 - 44/9 (4.8888)
4.88 - 39/8 (4.875)
I know that higher numbered pinion gears are stronger because the shaft diameter is larger, but why they used different sizes on one truck is beyond me. I wonder if it was a supplier issue...
